Summary

45 tibial plateau fractures treated with Cal-Cemex and osteosynthesis. Multi-center study (3); mean follow-up of 43M Sample characteristics 44 patients (27 F, 17 M), age 56 Y (26 – 82) All pts received Cal-Cemex in association with LCP (29) or CS (16). Cal-Cemex was used before or after application of osteosynthesis device. Fractures type according to Schtzker: 13 type II, 24 type III, 3 type V and 4 type VI Follow Up (range) 42.8 M (12 - 70)

Results

Functional outcome at 1Y
  • Rasmussen knee function score: 24.7 (18 – 29)
  • KOOS score: 90.7 (65 – 100)
  • HSS knee score: 89.9 (70 – 90)

Full weight-bearing

34.9 days (30 – 60)

Complications at 1Y
  • No cement leakage, complex regional pain syndrome, neuroma or exostosis formation.
  • No deep infection or local inflammatory reaction.
  • No soft tissue complication such as wound infection or dehiscence.
  • No reoperation or implant removal.
  • No screw loosening or fracture reduction loss

CT scan at 1Y

Good surface osteointegration, without radiolucent lines or osteolysis with evidence of interdigitation and bone ingrowth.

Key points

  • Early full weight-bearing (osteosynthesis stability due to mechanical performances of Cal-Cemex)
  • Possibility of percutaneous application
  • No complications
  • Good functional outcome
